Thank you as always to our great volunteers!
This week we began the "Borrow A Book" program. Your child brought home a little reader in their mailbag on Thursday. The book is for enjoyment as the children learn and practise their reading skills. It goes back in the mailbag and should be returned on Tuesday for a new one. A great crew of volunteers will swap the books each Tuesday and Thursday for the children - thank you for your time volunteers!
Our first Reading/Learning Buddy session was a great success. The grade sixes Mr. Littlejohn has were wonderful with our kindies and are looking forward to spending the year with us. Reading Buddies will actually be on Day 3 but due to the cross country races this week and a field trip next week; we will be seeing them on Day 4 these first few sessions. (Several of the grade six boys came back to see me later in the day to say we had a great class so well done kindies!)
Our first Mystery Reader was Friday afternoon and how great it was! The kids love this portion of the program - having someone special to them come in and read. Especially when it is a total surprise and along come several of their own favorite books! We enjoyed several stories with Patricia and heard, as well as learned a few Polish words, awesome!
Our Mystery Bag program is going well, thank you for keeping an eye on what goes in there. We have had some interesting items and already the children's questioning and problem solving is improving. Keep it up!
The Library/Computer Lab split seems to be working well but confusing for some. Because we are a K to grade 8 school we run on a 5 day cycle to allow the children to move around and get all the instruction they require from all of the teachers required. These days ARE NOT the same as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They will shift as we encounter holidays and PA Days. For us, they matter the most for making sure the library books are back on the day needed.
Here are the groups again and their days -
