Thank you as always to our valued volunteers! Our staff news from Ms. Caddel still has the computer lab off limits to the children so computer lab volunteers will be cancelled once again this week. Thank you for your understanding! It was great to see those of you who could make it to the Sharing Assembly on Thursday. Marissa, Chace and Porter do a great job being responsible for their belongings, taking things out of their backpacks and being responsible for their actions - well done! The next Sharing Assembly will be Friday, November 21, for the character trait of empathy.
Your child brought home their Poetry and Song book on Friday with two new poems. They need to add the "I" word to the "Sometimes..." poem in several places to be able to sing it correctly. Also sent home last week was the photo retake and sibling photo info - as noted in your grade parent bulletin, there has been a glitch and retake/sibling photos will be taken on Thursday, November 6. In the case of sibling photos the older sib is collected first and comes to us to pick up the kindergarten child. Please MAKE SURE we get the returned slip to know your child is taking a photo to avoid disappointment.
This week you will have access to the online interview booking site we use at LKS. While ONLY SK students get a report card this term, all parents may sign up for an interview. All interviews are ten minutes in length and are available in before school, at lunch and after school time slots. I look forward to meeting with you, your children are doing some wonderful things!
This week:
Monday - Mystery Reader p.m.
Tuesday - Day 5 Lib/NO computers
Wednesday - Mystery Reader a.m.
Thursday - Day 2 Lib/NO computers, Online interview booking open
Friday - Halloween! PLEASE KEEP READING...
Halloween at school -
COSTUMES should be easy for your child to move in and safely allow them good vision. It is still a school day and they do need to move around the classroom as well as schoolyard (there WILL be outdoor play AND we parade around the outside of the school at 9). Please send your child DRESSED IN THE COSTUME and a bag for them to keep all parts in as most children do not wish to wear the costume all day. ANY WEAPONS - swords, light sabers, guns, phasers, sticks, clubs etc SHOULD BE LEFT AT HOME.
TREATS need to be peanut free when sending things to share with the class, please look for the peanut free symbol to ensure the safety of our food allergic children! There are 31 children if you are sending enough for everyone and either individual treats ie. boxes of Smarties or prewrapped loot bags are the easiest for your child to share. We will make a loot bag this week that will make it easy for your child to BRING HOME these treats. Party food will be shared IN THE MORNING and tidied up at lunch time so that our afternoon is more routine despite the excitement of impending trick or treating...!!
CRAFT activities will be available all morning, we do encourage ALL children to try the crafts to avoid the disappointment of not having something to take home. PARENTS WHO HAVE SIGNED UP will be in the class to help at craft stations and with food. If you have not signed up PLEASE DO NOT "DROP IN" as this causes undue stress and worry among the children who feel their parent should also be in the class since there are so many others. It is a fun morning for the children BUT still is school with the same expectations for behaviour. Volunteers signed up in advance and we really can't accommodate more people!
THE SCHOOL PARADE is the time to see your child with their friends. We will walk in the parade with our grade 6 Learning Buddies (Mr. Littlejohn's class) to help the children manage. The parade begins after morning announcements, about 9 a.m., and involves the entire school coming out and looping around the school to show off their costumes so keep an eye out for us! On returning to the class we will begin our morning activities. In the event of rain, we organize the parade for inside the first floor and families generally line the halls and gym walls to see. Keep your fingers crossed it's a nice day!
TRIP FORMS are slowly coming in, thanks to those who have indicated they would like to volunteer. You need to send the form in with a NO option if your child will be missing the trip. In any grade, a child not going with their class joins another class for the day or stays home from school but we do need to know if they are not joining us and what the plan is. For those who wish to volunteer, I will draw 3 names from those interested on Nov. 3. when ALL forms are due in. We are UNABLE to accommodate more volunteers than that as space on the bus is at a premium and the tickets have been purchased. With 5 adults supervising, your child will be in a small group of 6 for washroom trips but we ALL travel together on foot and on the bus and are ALL seated together in the theatre.
Thanks, and have a great week!
Ms. I.
