Thank you to our valued volunteers! We enjoyed your help in many ways this week...to our great grade parents - thanks for getting on the new library/computer lab schedule so quickly! Thanks to those who were able to come out and walk with us on Terry Fox day, we enjoyed beautiful weather for a great cause. Anyone who still has donations out there or is thinking of collecting more, they will be accepted until Thanksgiving. We are just over the ten thousand dollar mark at present. Thanks also go to those able to help out with our first pizza lunch of the year! It was a very full lunch room, like a birthday party for 100...just imagine...!
Our first Sharing Assembly of the year was short and sweet! Congratulations again to Thomas, Michael and Lexi. The "Rise and Shine" song is in the poetry and song book this week along with our Terry Fox poem. I hope you enjoy having your child read/sing them to you! Please send back the books on Monday for this week's work to be added. The next Sharing Assembly will be Thursday, October 23.
Your child also brought home the October Scholastic order on Friday. Due date for orders and cheques to be in to me is this Friday, October 3. Orders are not mandatory by ANY means but most of us find the prices too good to beat and the catalogues seasonally current and of high interest to the kids. Once processed we have our books in less than a week most times!
Reading/Learning Buddies will begin for us in the next few weeks. We are paired with Mr. Littlejohn's grade six class this year. He has 24 children to our 31 so a few of the grade sixes will have two kindie buddies. Once up and running, the classes will meet each week to read together. We also have the older students work with the kindies on more intricate crafty projects that come up as well as go outside together for games. Both age groups enjoy the time immensely and are always thrilled when they pass each other in the hall and get a wave or a "hi" outside of buddy time! Other than school absences your child will have the same buddy for the year. Stay tuned for more on buddies!
Picture Day will be Tuesday, at approximately 9:20. Please send your child ready to be photographed, as you can imagine we cannot possibly dress or style 31 children prior to our turn. The class will take a group photo which EVERYONE gets regardless of purchasing individual photos or not. The individual proof your child takes will be sent home to you AT A LATER date with pricing and ordering information at which time you may decide to purchase or not. Photos are taken in the gym using a "green screen" for background so remember NOT to have your child dressed in green.

Our focus continues to be on noise level in the class as well as tidy up routines. Please continue to praise your child for doing a good job at home so that they get used to hearing the acceptable volume and knowing that tidying up is an important part of playing. If your child is not able to print his/ her name we are working on this with tracing over, modelling and copying. We encourage upper case letters only on the FIRST letter of names as the correct form. Seniors can be learning last names also as well as the sight words we focus on during our messages. Correcting or assisting children to have a proper pencil grip is important for the strength needed to form readable letters as well as to form groups of letters that make words. For seniors, printing practise comes in the form of "purposeful writing", no one wants to print random letters for no purpose but printing the grocery list or cards and reminders to friends and family are great...Thanksgiving and Halloween could both be card giving celebrations if you allow enough time to pace the work out - no pressure that way and usually no complaints either!
Have a great week,
Ms. I.
