Week of June 6 - 10

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers.  We appreciate all the ways you help us out!

This week the kids brought home their sound books. We have finished the sounds in class and use a variety of posters and laminated cards as reminders when doing our work; so these books are for review and reference at home, they do not need to come back to class.  Remember that even when your child has a good bank of sight words and can read books independently, they will not necessarily remember how to spell all of the words when writing so using our sounds is a valid and important strategy for making your ideas known - even in grade one.  If you google Kindergarten sight words or sight word games there are many links available to find games for extra practise or printable words if you wish.  A little practise over the summer is always a good thing and doesn't feel like such a chore when there isn't school all day as well.  The same is true of number work/math skills - prctising, consolidating and extending skills is always great in the summer when things can be really focussed on if the days ren't quite as busy!

Poetry books should continue to come back on Mondays until the 24th, our last Friday - then they will stay at home.  Mailbag readers will be swapped until Tuesday, June 21, when they will be collected in only.  Ms. McGee will be shutting down library book circulation this week also.  The children will get new books THIS week, their last "borrow" of the year, then ALL books out should be returned for your child's next library day.  If there are books outstanding, Ms. McGee will let you know via a note.  Lost library books can be paid for if necessary or returned to the library if you should find them, even after your child's library day.

Scholastic book orders were sent on Friday.  This will be our last order of the year.  Please be sure to send the paper copy of your order even if you have paid online.  Thank you!

Dance-a-thon for Fort McMurray...
Kindergarteners have been invited to participate with the rest of the school in a dance-a-thon to raise funds for the Fort McMurray disaster.  We will dance on Monday, June 13, in the gym, for the price of $2 each with all monies being donated.  Please send your child with $2 (or more if you wish) on Monday, June 13.

Our Kindergarten trip will also be next week - Wednesday, June 15 - Please remember it is a RAIN or SHINE event and be sure your child is dressed for the weather and has a good snack as well as lunch packed for the day. Apply sunscreen in the morning and be sure to have hats, waterbottles etc labelled so as not to be lost.

SK Graduation will be on Tuesday, June 28 at 10:00 AM.  We will be seating parents and family members promptly at 10:00 to be sure we have enough time for the ceremonies.  The children will have their special snack in the afternoon so as not to encroach on the seating areas.  Please send me a note to let me know HOW MANY will be attending from your family.  Thank you!
