Week of May 30 - June 3

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers! It was a great week for Lambton volunteering with the book fair staff, pizza lunch helpers as well as classroom mystery readers and mailbag book swappers - awesome!  It was wonderful also to see so many people make it to the Sharing Assembly for the certificate recipients - way to go Lexi and Zachary, and the gummy bear dance...!!  Now we are on to June...how crazy is that!

We enjoyed a visit from "the Chief" last week.  He is a corn snake that belongs to one of my sons.  The kids are involved in a reptile study and were able to see first hand some of the important features of creatures from the reptile group.  Nature study and the environment is one of the biggest areas of fascination for the kindergarten age group as they themselves are enlarging their world and understanding of the world around them with each new experience. The youngest children learn about the home, then the community around them as they begin venturing out to classes, lessons and friends', then about the world around them as they reach an age to learn about, remember and compare other places around the world to their own place.  These experiences are so valuable and amazing learning opportunities to build the world we want our children to live in by helping open their minds and hearts to new people, places and experiences.  "Risk takers" are what we are creating, children who will grow up trying and saying "I think I can" when faced with challenges in their education or life in general.  Amazing!

With the unusual spike in temperatures there were lots of questions about sunscreen last week.  The kids can have their own sunscreen in their bags, please put your child's name on it.  While the teaching staff nor the lunch supervisors can apply everyone's sunscreen we will certainly assist those who need some help!  We have a large bathroom mirror that we encourage the children to use in order to see what they are doing and then wash their hands afterwards to avoid sunscreen in the eyes or terribly sticky fingers.  Making sure your child has a water bottle they can refill as well as a hat is part of our outdoor routine for summer days.  Please be mindful of sending your child in FLIP
FLOPS as they are unsafe in the outdoor playground to run in or ride scooters and bikes safely; as well as tricky to climb the stairs in for library, computers and music.  Sandals that actually attach to the foot or running shoes are always better at school.

This coming week we will say goodbye to one of our families as we wish the Waslanders well on their big move!  We will miss our Zachary in class and look forward to seeing him again with lots of stories of his new school and all of his adventures.  The children made a book for Zachary and their heartfelt wishes were lovely to see.  I have had the pleasure of teaching both Waslander boys and look forward to meeting the newest arrival when we see them again!  All the best Waslanders, our love and wishes go with you!

Our new lego and rolling lego table will be in class on Monday.  I was able to purchase three "Lego Friends" playsets - a small house, supermarket and cafe as well as the characters that come with it and a small table with wheels from Ikea with Parent Council classroom funds, THANK YOU!  One of
my sons built most of it, table included, so it is ready to go and will be well received I'm sure!
