Week of May 2 - 7 Springfest Saturday!

Thanks as always to our valued volunteers.  We always enjoy seeing so many families at Sharing Assemblies to help celebrate our character education, thanks for coming out!  On Friday morning we were joined by a great group of volunteers - Fiona, Lindsay H., Estelle and Mary, who helped Scientist Laurie run her simple machines workshop.  Thank you so much!  The children had a great morning and appreciated your time and help.  As the children move through the grades the themes or strands of learning are repeated - they will do simple machines again - with a deeper and more complex understanding.  In Kindergarten we learn to recognize some of the simple machines, the difference between simple and complex machines, and the value or purpose of a simple machine. Well done!  Friday's Pizza day was enjoyed by all, thank you also to the Pizza Day helpers.

This Saturday will be Springfest, rain or shine.  Springfest is a huge volunteer undertaking and always so well done!  The children are looking forward to some of the activities they remember from last year as well as some new ones they've been hearing about!  It's a great LKS tradition, have fun with it!

The class enjoyed their visit with author Chad Solomon and his story of Rabbit Paw, with his brothers and sisters the animals, helping the earth.  Several of us - Yann, Malena, Adam, Everett and Ms. Santiago were chosen to help act out the story with props and puppets! It was lots of fun to watch and a great message about helping each other and each of us having gifts despite our outward appearance and size.  Thanks to Ms. McGee for organizing and the Parent Council for sponsoring Chad's visit.

This week looks like:
Monday - Music PM
Tuesday - Mailbags, Mystery Reader PM
Wednesday- LIB/IT Day 5 PM
Thursday -
Friday - Reading Buddies, Mystery Reader AM, LIB/IT Day 2 PM, Mailbags
Saturday - Springfest 10 - 2, Rain or shine

Sunday of course brings Mother's Day.  The children are busy working on top secret treasures to gift you with!  I hope you will enjoy your day in just the way that makes your heart swell and your eyes sparkle with a smile at the privilege that is the job of "mom".  My oldest turns 26 on Sunday, Mother's Day, and while every age and stage brings challenges and complexities; there is always love.    Take time to enjoy!
Cheers, Ms. I.
