Week of June 2 - 5

Thank you as always to our volunteers!  It is always great to see so many of you out at the Sharing Assemblies as well; don't forget the June assembly will be earlier (June  19) to accommodate all the other happenings in that last week of school!

The Chief  enjoyed his week away and the kids certainly enjoyed seeing him.  I think it's great when we can break down prejudice or stereotypes of any kind; including against a creature usually portrayed as dirty, slimy and menacing!  The Chief is none of those things and including shedding his skin right in the class on Monday, put on a great display for the kids.  The class knows that we also have 2 pythons and a beautifully marked, very docile boa at home and would love to see them as well.  Unfortunately they and their tanks are too big, too heavy and have too many wires and plugs to transport easily!  If you don't already know about Reptilia in Vaughn, they are a great place for a hot summer's day outing or birthday party. The kids can see all kinds of reptiles as well as hold some of them, very cool!  We will continue our reptile and amphibian inquiry for a few more weeks in class but no more special guest visitors are planned!

Last week's library visit was the last "borrow" of the year.  Ms. McGee begins collecting all books now and reshelving them for September.  The children will still have their library visit to read and explore in the library but not be bringing any books home.  If you have lost a book, typical replacement fees are $5 for paperback and $10 for hardback books.  If you have paid for a book and now found it please send it in and you will be refunded.  Remember the Brentwood Library has children's programs and is another great destination on hot summer afternoons!

The afternoon class said goodbye to their reading buddies last week; the grade eights will graduate next Friday and be away from school on their Grad trip the week after that.  We say goodbye to Ms. Lee on Tuesday this week as she will have completed her co-op credit and be studying for exams and summatives to finish her year at ECI.  Wish her luck if you see her Tuesday, she is a natural teacher and we are so glad to have had her!
