Week of May 26 - 30

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers.  For those of you who help out so faithfully with the Borrow A Book bags; thank you for your time!  We stop the Borrowing in June so that I can collect and assess the condition of the books as well as track down any missing books.  Having books your child can read is valuable for his/her practise but also remember to read TO your child since you can read higher level books - helping with the concepts of the text as needed of course - books at higher levels have better, more varied vocabulary which the children need to hear and learn to become the best readers they can.

Thank you to all of you who supported the Book Fair this past week, the kids love buying their own books and are keen to read and share them. What more could we ask for!

This next week we will host a reptile visitor in the class!  One of my son's snakes will be joining us for the week so our reptile and amphibian inquiry will have some live context!  "The Chief" is a North American Corn Snake, beautiful in colour and pattern, docile in nature.  He comes to us in his tank with heat lamp etc and will NOT be handled or out of the tank while at school.  He will stay this week only.  Be sure to ask your child about him sometime over the week!

For those of you in the PM class, our co-op student Miss Joanna Lee, will be finishing up her placement at LKS on Tuesday, June 3.  Your children have loved having her in the class all year long two to three times a week; if you have the chance to see her this week Monday, Wednesday or Friday, please give her your best wishes.

Tuesday - PM Library
Wednesday - Mystery Readers 10:55 and 2:45

Coming in June...

Lunch on the Lawn - keep an eye out for the pizza order forms for this BUT please remember your child needs an adult to supervise/be responsible for him or her during the lunch period. BOTH the AM and PM students are invited to attend this outdoor lunch. A good plan is to choose a class meeting place so that the kids can enjoy eating together.  The classroom is CLOSED over the lunch hour.  The rest of the day is a regular school day so that the AM class will be dismissed as usual to you or your caregivers who will take the children down to the shalepit.  Typically a few parents pick up the pizzas ordered for each class and bring them down to the seated families.  The afternoon class comes to the shalepit at 11:30 to get seated, once again several parents pick up the pizzas ordered.  At 12:30 the afternoon class students can be escorted to our door as usual to come into the class.  AM students may leave from the shalepit whenever they wish.  Also, you DO NOT need to purchase pizza to enjoy Lunch on the Lawn, you may decide to join us and bring your own lunch.  As well, siblings are welcome!  Stay tuned for more about this as we get closer to the date.

Have a great week!
