Thank you as always to our valued volunteers! This week we enjoyed our Scientist in the school visit also and big thanks go out to the volunteers who helped run activity areas. Bravo! Thanks also to Cynthia for organizing. The April calendars look great and there is much to do for your grade parents this month with volunteering to sort as well as Springfest to get rolling so be on the look out for emails and let's try to help them out the best we can! Thanks so much Sara, Cynthia, Maria and Christine - you guys are great!
Last week the student council threw in Hero/Superhero day and this coming week they have asked us to wear PINK on Wednesday to show support for anti-bullying. Do your best as always, not everyone wishes to participate nor does participate, there is no count or tally taken of involvement they are simply suggestions for spirit or awareness from our student council and we try to support their initiatives whenever we can.
This week we are scheduled for an AM and PM fire drill as well as a lockdown practice. Our focus is on the safety points - knowing what we in kindergarten should be doing, what is expected of us. Quiet and calm is a key component for any of these drills and easy for you to reiterate at home. The Fire Department recommends you have a fire safety/evacuation plan for your home also. Now would be a great time to think about and/or practice. Firefighters tell us the number one problem in an emergency situation is that children HIDE from the firefighters because of their scary appearance with all that equiptment on. Talking about these things can only help! Even a visit to the firestation...what fun! We have Officer Rich coming in to talk with the kids in May and might be able to squeeze in a firefighter visit too. Once in grade one, the children have "community helpers" as part of their social studies curriculum and will do a lot more investigating and talking about these roles.
