Week of March 24 - 28

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers!

The Borrow A Book program is missing some books from several sets that we have used over the year to date. I would really appreciate it if everyone could please have a look around for stray readers as incomplete sets are difficult to use.  I appreciate your being on top of these books and returning them regularly (Mon/Weds/Fri usually) as it makes it so much easier for our volunteers to find your children a new book when we have a full set to work with, the depleted sets are very limiting in choice. Thank you!

April will be a busy month in the class with several special activities taking place.  We have a scientist visit around "simple machines" to kick off the month.  For those of you new to LKS, this is an initiative involving a specialized teacher/scientist bringing materials and a program into the class for the children to be engaged in learning in that one specific area.  For our classes I chose the kindergarten simple machines program which the students love.  Senior parents might remember last year we did "backyard bugs" which led to several weeks of investigating bugs that the kids enjoyed very much.  You should know that this is one of the programs that your parent council pays for with your generous donations so if you know someone on the council, tell them thanks!

At the end of the month we will have an artist visit the class.  This is a program run the same as the scientists but with an art focus.  An in-class session involves a lesson time and hands on activity where students will have an opportunity to create their own masterpiece in the style of the master they learned about.  The visiting artist brings all materials necessary for the project and charges a class fee as well as materials fee.  In past years this too has been a program that your parent council has funded.

As well, April brings Easter and our spring craft party, Earth Day, several fire drill and a lockdown practice and our sharing assembly - based on co-operation this month.  Busy, busy! Now if the weather would just get warm and wonderful how great would that be!

This week:
