Thanks as always to our parent volunteers! We had great school spirit on Friday wearing our blue and yellow/gold clothes for the "Lambton Lightening" well done everyone!
As the children would say - we've made it, FINALLY, to trip week! There are a few who have counted down for this since the memo first went home! Trips are a part of your child's total school experience but number restrictions mean you can't always be ON the trip with your child. As a working parent myself, that was always a tough thing. HOW you talk to your child about trips and what they see and hear from you about the trip will colour their perception of the experience and sometimes those to come in the future. Talking about displaying good behaviour, appropriate to the venue, is always important - indoor voices on the bus, staying seated on the bus, listening to your adult and staying with your group are all great conversations to have! We want everyone to have fun and enjoy, remember there are many more trips ahead in their school careers!
Parent volunteers are chosen at random from those who have acknowledged they are available. Safety is the number one factor on any trip. Ensuring a ratio of parents:children which allows for optimum enjoyment and the safety of everyone is the purpose of having volunteers. These volunteers then take responsibility, over the course of the trip, for a small group of children. This means the classroom teacher can then manage his/her small group as well as oversee the whole class and in some cases deal with administrative aspects of the trip such as payment and scheduling. We ask our volunteers to make the children their number one priority for the duration of the trip and follow procedures outlined by the venue we are visiting.
As this trip will be our whole "day" your child will not need snowpants, backpacks etc with them. For the morning class it will be a book change day - mailbags will be left in the class for our volunteer to sort through. Backpacks, snowpants etc will also be left in the class. The Young People's Theatre will be hosting many schools for this event and the coat rooms/hooks/cubbies available to us there will not be able to accommodate all these items. Your child should be dressed in comfortable clothing which he/she CAN MANAGE INDEPENDENTLY for washroom purposes. NO FOOD OR DRINKS will be permitted on the bus as this is a safety/choking hazard, as well, no eating or drinking is permitted at the theatre. Make sure your child has time for a good breakfast (AM) or lunch (PM) before we go. MOST trips are in fact exactly the same with the children, regardless of grade, being given a specific lunch hour to eat and not otherwise providing food breaks - it eats (haha) into the amount of programming time they can provide for the children!
AM class - arrive at school for regular entry time. We board the bus after taking attendance in our class and removing excess items. Parent volunteers will be assigned their groups and we will line up according to our bus seating plan in order to board the bus efficiently. We share our bus with Mrs. Mendrinos and her class. The seating plan is A MUST and will be followed on the return trip also. We expect a return time between 12:00 and 12:15. Please be at our back door so that we may dismiss the children to you from there. In the event you arrive late for pick up your child will be seated at the office as the PM class will begin at 12:35 just like usual.
PM class - arrive at school NO LATER than 12:15. We board the bus after taking attendance in our class and removing excess
items. Parent volunteers will be assigned their groups and we will line
up according to our bus seating plan in order to board the bus
efficiently. All three classes will share a bus. The seating plan is A MUST and will be followed on the
return trip also. We expect our return time will allow for regular class dismissal at 3:05.
Please be at our back door so that we may dismiss the children to you
from there.
Please remember to check your child's snack/leader calendars (PM class its on the BACK of the Feb) to ensure your child is prepared and the class will have snack. While I do keep some emergency supplies in the class this is mostly dry crackers and as we had 4 leaders forget this week we were seriously depleted by the end of the week!
