Week of March 25 - 28

Thank you as always to our volunteers!
This week's sharing assembly celebrated Laiken, Oliver and Noah for their honesty in the classroom, congratulations again.  We discuss the character traits in the class in child terms so that for each trait the children begin to understand what it looks like (what would I see if someone was being honest?), sounds like (what might I hear to know someone or myself was being honest?) and feels like (how would I feel if I was being honest or someone else was being honest with me?) These are concrete ways to help a young child understand abstract concepts; you can use the sme idea at home in family life also.  Character development continues throughout life, always evolving as we mature and beginning the discussions when children are young is a great start!  Our next assembly will be on Thursday, April 25 to celebrate the trait of cooperation.

This week we will continue to work on our "Wind" books as well as some Easter activities.  This has given us a science and social studies focus in the class.  The children are fascinated with weather and the power of nature!  In math we begin experimenting with measurement and measuring; introducing the idea of standard and non-standard measuring units.  This strand of math understanding continues throughout the grades as do all the others we introduce in kindergarten.  Remember, you can always look up the curriculum expectations for any grade on the Ontario Government site to see where we are headed!

This past week we welcomed Oliver and his family to LKS and our afternoon class.  Take a moment to introduce yourself when you can, it's great to have you Perez family!

Remember the next two weeks are four days each so mailbags/book exchanges will be slightly different.  This week look for a book/mailbag Monday and Thursday.  Thursday's will include your new April calendars (PM class hold onto it, May is on the back!) and our Scholastic order forms for April.  They will be due next Thursday, April 4.

As the weather begins to warm up it's still a good idea to send your child in boots.  Due to drainage issues our playground - the woodchips and sandbox - can be quite mucky even when the sidewalks are dry due to drainage issues.  This means running shoes can get wet and/or muddy and not be acceptable for inside the classroom.  Hopefully as the weather evens out we will be able to get back to our regular outdoor play schedule with far less clothing to worry about!

The week looks like this:
Monday - PM Library
Tuesday - AM Library
Wednesday - AM Reading Buddies Easter activities!  PM Computers
Thursday - Mystery Readers 10:55, 2:45

Friday - Good Friday, No School - See you Tuesday!
I hope you enjoy a lovely Easter weekend,
Ms. I.
