Week of November 20-24

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers.  Please remember there are two separate book programs your child is participating in.  Library books should go back and forth in your child's green LKS library bag.  The BAG has your child's barcode on it, as well, it protects the book from being damaged in travel.  The small MAILBAG readers need to come back and forth IN the mailbag for protection and a new book cannot be sent until the previous one is returned.  Library days are Day 4 for the yellow group and Day 5 for the orange group; mailbag exchanges are on Tuesdays and Fridays unless it is a short week.  Thanks!

It was wonderful to meet with each of you in regards to your child.  They are unique, with their own strengths and needs, guided along in the job of growing up and learning by all of us around them.  The more resources the better, it is good to be a team! We meet again, formally, in February, after the next report is issued but you can always send me a note or come by the class to set up a convenient time for questions or concerns as they arise.

This week we will have our November Sharing Assembly to celebrate the character trait of empathy.  Empathy is being able to understand, relate to and share the feelings of others even when their sorrows, troubles or difficulties may have no impact on our own lives and we ourselves are not in that
position.  For example, we are not impoverished, hungry or homeless but we can imagine and have empathy for people in that circumstance and bring food for our food drive.  In talking about Remembrance Day with the class, we saw empathy as some of the children were able to realize that soldiers are also people with families and lives that they may not come back to in the same way or at all.  Helping a friend or class mate because they are hurt or having difficulty and we know, or can imagine how that feels is having empathy.  In our class and the world at large, wouldn't it be amazing to never feel alone with your troubles?  This month we would like to congratulate Gabby, Harrison and Kristina for displaying empathy with their peers and advocating for others to the best of their
abilities.  Well done guys!  A reminder for parents, this assembly will be conducted by Ms. McGee
and the children are asked to WEAR YELLOW. (Gold, LKS shirts etc all acceptable!)

The week looks like this:
Monday - Music AM, Mystery Reader AM
Tuesday - Mailbags, Reading Buddies AM
Wednesday - Day 4 LIB Yellow group PM
Thursday - Day 5 LIB Orange group AM, Mystery Reader PM
Friday - Sharing Assembly - wear YELLOW, Mailbags
Have a great week!
