Thank you as always to our valued volunteers! Also, many thanks to everyone for getting on the interview sign up site and booking an interview. We look forward to speaking with all of you! The children will bring home their report - now called a "Communication of Learning" - Monday after school. Please keep the enclosed COL for your records but sign and return the brown envelope so that we can reuse it. A photocopy of any reports throughout your child's schooling will be placed in their OSR (Ontario Student Record) which is housed in the office.
The children did a wonderful job at our Remembrance Day assembly this morning, well done! In class we have been relating the idea that "happy hearts" create an environment of peace so understanding what makes your heart happy or sad is key to the peace and calm of a positive learning environment. While some are very concrete in their thinking such as presents, t.v., cake etc are the happy triggers, others can think more abstractly and identify friends, family and experiences as the happy triggers. This is a developmental or maturity difference between the children. They will all get there with continued exposure and thinking.
Today's cold snap was a shock to most of the kids, who are used to not having to struggle into multiple pieces of cumbersome clothing before playing outdoors. To help the kids and us, please be sure you have LABELLED all their clothing. You can never know how many of the same things are going to turn up in the classroom...and most of the kids will tell you right to your face while holding up the item in question "that's not mine!" Whenever you can, have your child DRESS THEMSELVES to improve speed and confidence. We dress no one but ourselves in kindergarten! Indoor shoes CAN safely be left in the cubbies and are better off there so as not to get stuck wearing boots all day.
Over the next few weeks we will be investigating fall changes in people, animals and the environment. We went for a fall walk around the neighborhood with our Reading Buddies on Thursday and collected items that help us think about what we see, hear, small, touch and taste in fall. Hibernation, migration and adaptation are big words in this investigation! We have another pajama day coming this week (from Student Council)so we can hibernate along with the bears!
Our week looks like this:
Monday - Reading Buddies A.M., Reports go home 3:05, interviews after school
Tuesday - Mailbags, LIB/IT Day 4 yellow PM, interviews after school
Wednesday - LIB/IT Day 5 orange, Mystery Reader PM, interviews after school
Thursday - PAJAMA DAY, interviews after school
Friday - PA Day No School
Have a great week!
Ms.I.
