Thank you as always to our valued volunteers. Many thanks also to those who have returned trip forms and expressed an interest in volunteering with us for the day. Please be sure your police check is in good standing - if you don't have one and wish to come, please see Mrs. Stephanowic in the office and get the paperwork going. Police checks need to be renewed each year at your initiative as they do expire.
Forms due...
We have half of the trip forms back. They are due in by this coming Friday, April 28. On Friday I will draw the 7 names for volunteers and we will send out an email to everyone with those names. Please remember that as much as YOUR child would like YOU to come, the same is true for every other child! We don't talk about it in class, we simply a knowledge which group the kids are in and what our agenda for the day will be.
We need more Parent Census forms returned please! The big, white envelope needs to come back to me by Friday, April 28. If you have changed your mind and DO NOT wish to participate please write "declined" and return it to me. Thank you! I will turn the class set over to the office on Friday.
Sharing Assembly news...
The Kindergarten Sharing Assembly has been moved to Thursday at 9:00.
This month we are recognizing two juniors for their consistent display of cooperation among their peers and with adults each day - well done Ashlyn and Caesar! Ms. McGee, Ms. McGregor and Ms. Marshmallow (she was our awesome supply teacher while Ms.McGee was off) have worked to teach the kids in all the Kindie classes the song they will sing at the assembly, hope you can make it!
The Solar System...
As we prepare to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, the children have been investigating our solar system in class. We are learning about the planets, the atmosphere, the space program and everything connected with it! We are in fact, writing a non-fiction book containing what we know that you will see home next week...excellent work from all of them! We constantly remind the kids of what they have accomplished in the writing and reading department...they can't help but grin when they remember coming in the door, some of them unable to write even their names, and here we are making sentences and books! Woohoo!
Reports...
The Kindergarten report card has changed formats. It is now called a "Communication of Learning" and will come home with ALL students, JK and SK, in June. As a result, we teachers have been given release time for some professional development courses over the next few weeks. I will be absent from class the mornings of April 25 and 28 to attend workshops and back for afternoon class.
Lockdown...
Your child may mention a "lockdown" was done today - a set procedure we practise to ensure student safety in an unknown or dangerous situation in or around the school. Basically we sit VERY still and quietly in our cubby area, lights out, door locked, and wait for Ms. Caddel to tell us on the PA system that the lockdown is over. We remind the children they are safe and that we practise these things so we will know what to do "just in case" - like carrying an umbrella on a rainy day, you need to know how to open it! Typically there are lockdown and fire drill practices in the spring as the weather is not as much of a factor so you may hear more about this!
Next week looks like:
Monday - Music AM
Tuesday - Mailbags, Mystery Reader AM
Wednesday - Day 3 LIB/IT PM
Thursday - Sharing Assembly 9:00, Reading Buddies AM, Mystery Reader PM
Friday - Forms for trip/census due, Mailbags, Pizza Lunch, Day 5 LIB/IT AM
Have a great week,
Ms.I.
