Thank you as always to our valued volunteers!
We have a need for 7 parent volunteers for our trip to the Science Centre on Thursday, May 11. Your child brought home an information letter and permission form in their mailbag on Thursday. To indicate you are available for volunteering (**please note this is an ALL day trip) complete the volunteer section of the permission form and return it to me by April 28. Monies are to be paid online by that date and forms are to be returned to me. We will then follow the same procedure as always, draw 7 names from those who indicated their availability and let you know the specifics. No need to email Tara on this one!
Volunteers will be asked to manage 3 children each for the duration of the day, their own child included! We will be trying to see as much as possible of the Science Center and DO NOT need to stay together as a class or a giant LKS group since our ratio will be so low - 1 adult to 3 kids. We plan to meet in the lunch area - NO purchasing, only packed lunches - and otherwise have the groups travel independently at their own pace. Each of our classes will be wearing coloured pinnies to make them easily identifiable and as always I will have a master list of everyone and emergency supplies. It should be a great day!
There is also an upcoming in-class volunteer opportunity for parents the morning of Friday, May 19 (AM ONLY) when we will welcome the "Scientist in the School" program to our class for a session on bees! At this point I have confirmation of our date but not yet how many volunteers the scientist will require - it can be anywhere from 3 to 5 and I will let you know when I can! For those unfamiliar with the scientist programs it involves our scientist coming to our room with all the supplies necessary to run a half day session of activity centers on the chosen topic. We staff her activity centers with willing volunteers and she/he will give us the instructions! It is a busy morning and very hands on as the class rotates through each of the centers similar to a craft party. If you are available to help on that day please email Tara and she will give me the list of names once I have confirmation of how many volunteers are required. I imagine it will be a few weeks before I have all the info so stay tuned!
Thank you's go to Kristina and Alexandra's houses for the lovely Easter treats passed on to the kids. Who doesn't like colouring books and goody boxes? The nest your child brought home is COMPLETELY edible and was made by them! The nests are shredded wheat and melted chocolate then a few treats for eggs and mama bird to complete it! The kids had fun making them and were happy to be bringing them home to show off!
It was a busy week with the play, Pink day, Leafs day and then the Easter Bunny made a surprise visit to the class...just ask your child if you don't believe me...it was quite exciting to find celery, carrots and treats in the class along with a note... but we never saw him come or go, how curious!!
Next week looks like this:
Monday - Stay home for Easter Monday!
Tuesday - Mailbags, Mystery Reader AM
Wednesday - Day 3 LIB/IT PM
Thursday - Reading Buddies AM, Mystery Reader PM
Friday - Mailbags, Day 5 LIB/IT AM
Have a lovely long weekend however you spend it, see you Tuesday!
