Our wonderful globes are dry and painted blue now. They looked quite unusual hanging to dry in the bushes by our classroom door on Friday but it sure helped speed up the process! I had a few visitors from past years come to see what exactly we were up to in our room! This weekend I am putting together a base that should allow the kids to rest their globe safely on a flat surface, view it easily and keep it as long as they would like to. They are working hard on them and enjoying the process. There are many great videos on YouTube teaching about the Earth and showing amazing footage, songs to learn the planets, continents etc What a great resource this is to go with any books you give them access to. How amazing that all of this is at our fingertips...the children are quite shocked when I talk about the "old days" when I was a child...with no computers...or push button car windows...or cell phones...wow!
Our Reading Buddies were great helpers and pushed through the messy paper mâché part of the process very well. Mr. Littlejohn was a champion at keeping the glue splashes to a minimum, wiping the faces, arms and hair of the kids (grade 6 and kindergarten!) to keep the splatter to a minimum. I will be bringing them a treat on Tuesday as a well earned and unexpected reward! We look like we are still on track to have the globes coming home to you on Friday - if anyone has a stash of plastic grocery bags they could share, we will need 31 to make getting them home safely easier. I have some so even a few would be helpful thanks!
Everyone did a great job cleaning up our LKS yard and the nearby park areas on Friday as we pitched in and picked up trash for the "Clean up Toronto" campaign. Thanks to those who sent washable
gloves to use and many of the kids who chose to wear my extra class mitts as well - less garbage is a
good thing!

**Each child will need to bring a GLASS jar for a very important craft coming up!**
Please dig through your recycle bins over the next few weeks so everyone can have one by May 1.
Please send your CLEAN GLASS JAR (or JARS if you can) as soon as possible. Think of a pasta sauce jar, mason jar, strained tomato jar - about 750 mls tall, not too wide mouthed...labels washed off and all food traces cleaned out please. We are going to re-purpose them and make them beautiful...thank you!
