Week of April 13 - 17

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers.  Thanks very much for all the newspaper you've been sending. I have been diligently cutting them up and think we are in great shape for "the great paper mache adventure!"  Thankfully our buddies will be blowing up all the balloons for us as well as helping us do the actual paper mache-ing if there is such a word!  I will owe them a thank you treat at our next session for sure!

We will begin the globes on Tuesday morning with our buddies so if by chance your child is away that day, the buddy can do the paper mâché portion and your child will still have a globe to paint, add continents to and celebrate Earth Day with!  Earth Day is April 22 so the globes will stay in the class until at least until then.  There are several wonderful assemblies happening that week - Reptilia is visiting as well as The Earth Rangers, to help the school celebrate.  It should be great!  Thank you once again to our Parent Council who helps fund all of these great events the kids enjoy so much!

Our spring round of fire drills and lockdown practices will begin this week and be completed by next week.  It is always helpful to remind your child this is a GOOD thing!  The alarm noise can be startling and it does disrupt our routines but the outcome is knowing what to do and being as safe as we possibly can, never a bad thing!

I'm not sure I should say it aloud... don't want to jinx ourselves...but it looks like the snowpants and heavy winter things may not be needed this week - hooray!  It never hurts to wear the rain boots if it is frosty overnight as those wood chips can be mucky but how lovely it will be to have less "stuff" in our crowded coat area and need less time to dress and undress. Ahhhhhh!  We play outside at least twice a day (three times if the child stays for lunch) and our morning scheduled time is either 10:10 or 10:50 so most days we are lucky to get out when things have dried up a bit.  In the afternoon our time slot is always at the end of the day, around 2:30.  If you have purchased new shoes for spring, your child could use the ones already in class as outdoor shoes if you wish also.

This week:
Monday - LIB/IT AM, Fire Drill
Tuesday - Reading Buddies & Paper Mâché
Wednesday - Mystery Reader PM
Thursday - Music AM, LIB/IT PM, Fire Drill
Friday - Mystery Reader AM, Lockdown practice

Those of you able to volunteer for the Scientist's visit, we will draw the names on Monday in class and let you know.  Many thanks if you were able to volunteer!  With apologies there is a correction
from the original email that only 4 will be needed but thank you, thank you! If we couldn't get volunteers, programs like this wouldn't be possible.

Coming next week will be the April Sharing Assembly.  Tuesday, April 21 at 9:00 in the gym we will celebrate the character trait of cooperation with certificates.  We always appreciate everyone's efforts to learn and improve in all the ways we show good character traits.  Certificates reflect all of us along the journey from learning to learned and we congratulate all efforts.  The April certificates will go to Julian, Jordyn, Adam and Abby, congratulations!  For those still waiting for a certificate, there are two more valuable character traits - integrity and perseverance still to come and everyone in the primary grades receives a certificate over the year.

Welcome back sunshine and have a great week,
Ms. I.
