Week of February 2 - 6

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers!  We look forward to seeing many of you this month with parties as well as our regular Mystery Reader, computer helper and book changer spots - thank you, thank you!  It is always great to see so many people at the Sharing Assembly.  Congratulations again to Rowan, Jackson and Kayln.  The next character trait we recognize will be fairness and our next assembly will be on Thursday, February 19.

This week Ms. McGee, our teacher-librarian, will be at a workshop to learn the new library circulating system that will be installed on her computer.  There may be some down-time before the new system is up and running, she has no way of knowing, if so we MAY not be able to sign out new books on Friday (the day 5 yellow group). This just means we turn in our old books and don't get a new one until the following week.  We'll have to wait and see, keep your fingers crossed for technology! The day 2, orange group, should be unaffected.

With the 100th Day party on Friday we look forward to sharing our collections this week.  A gentle reminder that we are a nut free school and need to be careful with any food items that come into the class - as snacks or as a collection.  If you are practising counting to 100 at home there is a catchy little song on youtube - The Big Numbers Song - that we listen to and sing along with in class.  It counts to 100 then shows the kids 1000, 10000, and on and on.  They are enjoying it on the smartboard.

This week:
Monday - AM Mystery Reader, collections from Sophia, Michael, Yann, Lucy, Jordyn, Dhevan
Tuesday - LIB/IT, collections from Siena, Bridget, Marissa, Ethan, Naty, Porter
Wednesday - Reading Buddies, collections from Julian, Lexi, Chace, Santino, Norah, Will
Thursday - PM Mystery Reader, collections from Malena, Sara, Kayln, Rowan, Tommy, Abby
Friday - 100 Day Party, collections from Adam, Reese, Zachary, Jackson, Ayden, Amelia, LIB/IT

A few people have asked about next year...
If your child is in JK now, you will receive a letter in the spring regarding French Immersion schooling beginning in SK.  It will give you the dates and information you need.

If your child is in JK now, and you wish to continue at LKS, you will NOT need to re-register and your child will be carried forward to my next year's class as a Senior Kindergarten student.  We typically do not swap the children around as they have become accustomed to their class and routines etc and this builds a solid base for the class as a group when the new Juniors come in.

If your child is in JK or SK this year and you will be moving from the area OR changing to private or parochial school we ask that you inform the office or myself so that we don't place your child on a class list here at LKS.   That helps us keep the class numbers fairly even across the grades.

If your child is in SK and will be moving to grade 1 in September we will look at making up these classes in April.  The seniors from all 4 kindergarten classes are blended into the grade one classes.  Boys and girls are shared as evenly as possible to make relatively even grade one classes.  Groups of CHILDREN are made in consultation with all 4 kindergarten teachers and the last step is to add a teacher's name to the group (in June).  Your child will be given their new teacher's name and room number for grade one on their June report card.

Have a great week, Ms. I.
