Thank you as always to our valued volunteers. We enjoyed the 100th Day activities and party immensely - many thanks to those who volunteered to come in, our fabulous grade parents for fun activities and everyone who helped out by sending 100 of something for our fabulous snack mix-up...the bowl was overflowing and the kids were able to have both an AM and PM snack! We spent the week admiring and learning from each other's 100 collection, the groups made and the variety of items was fantastic. The children did a great job explaining what they had done and we all have had lots of practice counting to 100 in many different ways. One of the deeper understandings that we aim for is to show the children that as the number of things in a group gets bigger (eg. 20's, 25's, 50's) the number of groups themselves gets smaller...tricky stuff for little minds but visible when you compare collections done in different ways. Well done everyone!
JK Summary reports come home on Monday. The online booking for interview times has closed so you will need to book directly with me; however, this term is considered "teacher requests" for interview priorities so if you have not and do not hear from me on Monday to request a conference, congratulate your child that "all is well", things are progressing in a positive way, everything is "status quo", they are doing a great job being in Kindergarten!
Kindergarten Registration will take place this week, Tuesday and Wednesday. I will be out of the class to cover Wednesday afternoon and Mrs. Champagne will be with the children and Miss Nisker.
Our Valentine party will be this Thursday morning. The children will have a chance to do some fun Valentine crafts as well as decorate their "loot bag" which will serve as a mailbox for cards and treats from classmates. If you are sending treats please be sure they are peanut free.

Coming...
The Brentwood Library Librarian will be visiting with all Kindergarten classes on February 18 to share the fun that can be had through Brentwood's kids' programs. We look forward to it!
The February Sharing Assembly will be on Thursday, February 19. We celebrate the character trait of fairness and recognize Yann, Zachary and Lucy for their consistent display of fairness in the class. Well done!
We will celebrate Chinese New Year on February 23 with some special activities. Please KEEP saving the paper towel rolls for this! Each child needs 2 and right now we are only half way there.
Thank you, thank you to those taking vacation time and letting me know with a small note. I pass the notes along to Mrs. Shakespeare in the office so that the absence tracking system does not have to call looking for your child on the acknowledged dates.
Cheers, have a great week!
Ms. I.
An aside...
Hiking through the Sunnybrooke Park trails, dogs bounding alongside full of nothing but pure joy, the forest at its' prettiest, my husband's hand in mine...makes me appreciate the winter season for its' beauty. Having my neighbor tell me "41 days to spring" as we shovel our walks yet again...pure magic to the ears!!
