Week of November 10 - 14

Thanks as always to our valued volunteers!  We are back to having Computer Lab on Days 2 and 5 as of Thursday last week.  Thank you for your understanding if your turn was cancelled.

This week interviews will take place.  For those of you who booked times BEFORE or AFTER school we will be meeting in the guidance room (just inside the main office door, across from Mrs. Shakespeare's desk) as the daycare program will be running in our classroom.  Those of you coming over the lunch hour will come to the classroom.  See you there!

Also this week, we will join the whole school for a Remembrance Day assembly on Tuesday.  We talk about assembly behaviour each time we go but this one in particular is a solemn and quiet time.  Community members, families and seniors enjoy watching and we are on our best behaviour!  If your child participates in Sparks or Beavers they may wear their "uniforms" to school on Tuesday.  A representative from every class will bear the wreaths created, our rep will be Abby as it happens to be her leader day on Tuesday.  Your child will be given a poppy on Tuesday and you may send a donation to school Tuesday or Wednesday which will be collected by the Royal Canadian Legion for their poppy fund.

**Hot Lunch**Please remember that if your child has the "hot lunch" for school lunch they still require a MORNING and AFTERNOON SNACK.  The lunch program does not provide snack and the children are hungry! I've shared my lunch food several times but it isn't always enough...nor what they like!

Trip volunteers were chosen on Monday from those of you who indicated on the form you would like to go.  There were 13 names in the jar and Zachary (our leader on Monday) drew the three out.  Our helpers will be Kelly (Ayden's mom), Lindsay (Jordyn's mom) and Patricia (Adam's mom).  Thanks to all of you who offered!  Having five adults (each will be responsible for a small group of 5-6 students) will be wonderful.  NO money or food is needed on the trip.  There is nothing to purchase and we will eat our lunch when we return to school.  Thanks!

DRESSING for outdoors is improving all the time.  Independence is encouraged in Kindergarten and we teach the children how to best dress THEMSELVES.  These skills build confidence as well as independence and the children are thrilled when they can manage alone.  Practising at home when jackets are new is very helpful, be sure to show your child from BEHIND them which hand is for holding the bottom of the coat and which is for pulling UP the zipper.  If you notice the zipper pull is small and difficult to grasp for little fingers attaching a KEY RING loop is a great solution.  It allows good access so your child can easily pull it up but lays flat on the front once the zip is done up.  MITTS are always easier than gloves to put on and also WARMER for outdoor play.  BOOTS that slip on are best, velcro can be managed by the children but laces are too difficult - worse once they become soggy and wet!  A good thing to keep in mind is if YOU have trouble doing up your child's clothing...imagine how they must feel when trying to get ready!  Eeek!
