What a great first week we all had! Thank you to all for supporting your children and their class by doing simple things like being on time, prepared and positive as they begin their new year; whether in JK or SK.
The beginning of the year is exciting and hectic for everyone, my aim with the blog is to keep you as up to date and be as helpful as I can to your planning. That said, the usual format is some talking to fill you in on what's coming up and a schedule for the week so you know what our class is up to. Our class schedule runs on the same five day cycle (days 1,2,3,4,5) as the rest of the school and our daily activities vary according to those days. For yourselves and the children I will post our activities on the actual day of the week.
Thank you to those who have returned the orange info sheet and the school forms. If you have not yet, please do so! Our grade parents (for new JK parents these are "class" parents who volunteer to organize the volunteers necessary to run programs such as mystery readers, borrow a book, parties etc etc) They commit to helping our class run smoothly and can only do so with your help - beginning with making sure they have a valid email address and that you check and respond to their emails. They will be setting up sign up lists Tuesday evening during Curriculum Night to allow you to be as involved as you wish this year.
Curriculum Night begins at 5:30 in the gym for JK/SK parents. At approximately 6:00 we will return to the class - both AM and PM parents for sign ups, introductions, etc and at 6:30 I need to close up and head back to the gym for introductions and Ms. Caddel's program. If you have a conflict and cannot attend a portion or any of the evening there will be handouts sent home Wednesday and you can contact your class grade parent directly about any volunteering you would like to do. I'll add their emails to this post after verifying them.
AM grade parents are Sara (Max's mom) and Cynthia (Hayley's mom). They can be reached at
sara_beveridge@rogers.com
cynthia.e.thompson@gmail.com
PM grade parents are Christine (Scott's mom) and Maria (Natalia's mom). They can be reached at
christinebritz@hotmail.com
maria.terzaghi@gmail.com
Many thanks to them for helping out over the year!
****PM parents take note that a new snack/leader calendar will be sent home to account for the many children who registered with us but have moved or gone to other programs.****Your child's day may have changed or they may now have two days in September!****
What we need:
A parent to go with the class to the computer lab once each week.
Parents to change the borrow a books Monday/Wednesday/Friday each week beginning Sept 30.
Parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles/older siblings to be "Mystery Readers" once a week beginning October 1. (This is a surprise, your child shouldn't know you're coming!)
Party volunteers to run a craft or provide snack for holiday celebrations.
Terry Fox walk volunteers to walk with the class Sept. 26.
The Special Person/Leader program begins Monday - the "Mystery Bags" have gone home with the first children in both classes and we are excited! Don't forget to post your calendar somewhere to be sure you don't miss your turn and swap with another child if you must miss your turn for some reason.
This week:
Monday - Terry Fox Assembly AM
Tuesday - PM class meets Ms. McGee, Curriculum Night 5:30 in the gym
Wednesday - AM Fire Drill
Thursday -
Friday - Cyber Busters Performance 9:15, AM see Ms McGee
We are hopeful the library will be up and running soon; until then Ms. McGee will come to our class and read to the children. The computer lab should also be available for class visits soon; unfortunately, both the library and some of the computers were damaged in the rain storm in July. I'll let you know when we are able to visit these rooms! Coming next week - more fire drills!
Have a great week!
Ms I
