Thanks as always to our volunteers! At this time of the year we appreciate your time as well as understand when something falls by the wayside...we are all so busy!
The Book Fair was enjoyed by all, buying your own book and having the satisfaction of reading it is powerful! Thanks to those who helped out or supported the Book Fair. We look forward to next year's now...
Dental hygenists have been in the school all week and busy seeing students of all ages. The afternoon class was screened on Friday and the morning will go on Monday. It's never too early to encourage good oral health habits and take your child to the dentist. You can look for a specifically child oriented dental office or go on recommendation from friends and family but school aged children should definitely be visiting the dentist regularly.
The May Sharing Assembly takes place this week, Tuesday at 9:00 and 12:35, to celebrate our integrity certificate recipients. The June assembly will celebrate perseverance and take place on Monday, June 17. Special mention will be made at this time of Daniel Kovacs, JK in the afternoon, who well deserves his award for his growth in perseverance over the year. Daniel is leaving early to begin his summer vacation and will not be able to attend the assembly.
Incredibly, June calendars will come home this week - in Friday's mailbag - along with the June Scholastic book order forms. Book orders will be due back to me Weds. June 5 if you are purchasing.
Senior Kindergarten Graduation Day will be Wednesday, June 26 in our classroom. This will be a regular day for the first portion of the class and graduation activities will take place at the end of our day. Senior Kindergarten parents will be invited in (10-11am for morning and 2-3pm for afternoon) to see our dvd of the year and watch their child receive their graduation certificate. Jk students will watch the activities but Jk parents need not attend.
"Lunch on the Lawn" is a year end tradition at LKS that new families may be unfamiliar with. For the students it is a fun lunch with their families (every child attending must have parental/guardian supervision) and for the school community a nice way to close out the year. Pizza lunch forms will be sent home in the coming days, however; you need not order pizza to come and have lunch! As both the AM and PM children are invited to attend it is usually wise to have the grade parents organize a meeting spot in the park for pizza to be picked up. At the end of the morning class I would simply walk the AM children to their meeting spot and they could begin their lunch. You are free to attend or not and leave when you need to! Afternoon children could simply come with their adult (parent/caregiver) to their designated park spot and pick up their pizza if ordering or simply have lunch together. At the end of the lunch hour (12:30) adults would simply walk their afternoon child/children up to the school yard for class to begin as usual. Your teachers will come down and enjoy lunch in the park but it is not a supervision time so each child must have an adult responsible for them. Older students (grade 1 and up) sometimes return to the schoolyard for play and they have lunch supervision. Kindergarten students should NOT be unsupervised in the schoolyard at any time.
Busy days to come!
