Thank you as always to our volunteers! The children in both classes enjoyed experimenting with primary and secondary colours last week, once again a big thank you to Emily's mom, Wei, for the supplies and her time! The morning class took home some lovely work on their canvases and both classes have a great bulletin board showing off their first attempts. Anyone else out there with an interest or a hobby that we could introduce the children to let me know!
The children's clothing drive "Pay It Forward" continues this week. Gently used, clean clothing can be sent in all week. Thanks in advance!
This Wednesday is wear pink for anti-bullying if you would like to participate. Pajama day was great, such an odd feeling to walk around in them all day but fun! The children had fun showing and telling about their stuffies as well. Next Thursday, the 18, is wear black for the Seeds of Hope campaign to raise pennies for clean water. Lots going on but always voluntary, you may choose to participate or not as you see fit. Remember to keep an eye out for emails from your grade parents about the Springfest baskets. Anyone who can donate some time to the Springfest committee is welcome to let your grade parents know as there are still openings to be filled to make the day run as smoothly and successfully as it can!
In class, we continue our measurement unit. The children are having a great time using rulers, tape measures and meter sticks. Our reading buddies have been helping us out too, coming soon will be tracings of the children with measurements added! Using non-standard measures such as hands, feet etc is a fun way of measuring also.
Over the next few weeks we will be having fire drills and a lockdown practice. You can talk to your child about this, most children are very understanding of the need to practice and follow the routines of lining up to exit and re-enter the class silently very well. I always tell them that I've been teaching for 22 years and never had a real fire in my schools. Fire safety at home is always a good thing to talk about and plan for as well! You can visit your local fire station for some ideas or check their website.
