Thanks as always to our valued volunteers! Congratulations again to our Sharing Assembly certificate winners and great job remembering to bring mittens. Our next Sharing Assembly will be on Tuesday, February 19 and recognize the trait of "Fairness".
Thanks to all who dressed for Flag Day, we kindergartens had a great red and white turn out and got mentioned on the PA system!
February is always a quick month but so packed with events...Groundhog Day, Chinese New Year, 100th Day of school, Valentine's Day, JK reports, classroom Open Houses, kindergarten registration for younger siblings, and the Family Day long weekend are all coming our way!
The children brought home several important papers this week regarding our trip, 100's Day and for the PM the February/March snack calendar.
Trip forms (Yes or No and $20) for both AM and PM class should be returned by January 31 as we need to advise the theatre of our final numbers. Please be sure to make note of the alternate pick up/drop off times depending on your child's class.
100's Day will be Friday, February 8. The children are asked to bring their collection of 100 objects to school with them that day. We will keep the collections at school to share with our buddies and display for the other classes.
Valentine's Day will be celebrated in class on Thursday, February 14. Writing Valentine's for classmates is great practice for writing names and/or messages but takes some time. Give your child a span of several days to complete this task in order to be successful. Treats for classmates are easiest when individually packaged and wrapped, nut free also please! We'll decorate loot bags to bring our treats and Valentine cards home in.
A new community outreach initiative has been launched by two of our senior students who will be collecting old jeans as donations to teen shelters. The corporate sponsor is Aeropostale and you can send in unused jeans from January 21 - February 4 for the program known as "Teens for Jeans". Check it out at dosomething.org as a bonus if we collect 500 pairs the school becomes eligible for a $10 000 prize!
Reports will come home February 11 for Junior Kindergarten children only. Teachers usually dedicate interviews this term to students with challenges, requesting interviews in these cases, so your Kindergarten team will hold Open Houses that you may attend - look around, ask questions and informally discuss your child. These will be Wednesday, February 20 from 7:45-8:45 AM and Thursday, February 21 from 3:45-4:45 PM. You may choose to attend either one regardless of your child's class designation AM or PM and would not need to attend both!
This week we'll do the "Dd" sound and continue our numeracy skills with simple subtraction or "take away" work. Remember to use concrete objects when first introducing and practising these concepts.
