Another full week in kindergarten! The children are probably exhausted in the evenings after what they do in a day and the temperatures being the way they are! Please remember when dressing your child that the days do heat up as the hours pass and our class is very warm - summer shorts are perfect! Everyone is drinking and refilling their water bottles several times over the course of a day and we take advantage of the shade outside when the sun is just too much. For those of you new to Kindergarten we go outside 3 times over the course of our day unless it is pouring rain- cold, snow, fog, heat, sun etc we are out there usually for three 40 minute periods - paying attention to the weather in the morning and dressing appropriately is an absolute must!
The reorganization of students begins effective Monday. For us it meant saying goodbye to our Andrew in SK and our Clark in JK. They are both great kids and will be missed! The new class has 15 students without an ECE and is located in room 119. We will of course see our friends in the playground and lunchroom and all other events or K happenings such as Sharing Assemblies.
The first Sharing Assembly will be THIS Friday - September 29 at 9:00 in the gym, stage side. Sharing Assemblies are held monthly to celebrate students who exemplify the character trait set out by the TDSB to be focussed on in that particular month - September is respect. In kindergarten we look for respect towards adults, peers, materials and belongings. Several children who regularly exhibit this will be recognized and given a certificate of congratulations - EVERYONE gets a certificate at some point over the year! Recipients names' will be posted on the blog the weekend prior to give parents heads up BUT it is a surprise to the children so please don't tell! This month we would like to recognize Torin, Reese and Emma for the great job they do, well done! ALL parents are invited to attend ALL Sharing Assemblies regardless of your child getting a certificate as we also perform a quick "something" - poem or song - with the other kindie classes for your entertainment...
It's very casual and quick, over by 9:20, you may make some or none depending on your schedule and for some kids seeing you and saying goodbye AGAIN is too difficult, waiting until later in the year may be a better idea!
The Terry Fox walk is Thursday afternoon. The whole school meets in the gym after lunch (12:45ish) and then disperses to walk. Kindies do a short loop around the school, sometimes two loops depending on weather and stamina! You are welcome to come and walk with us, keep in mind the goodbye dilemma - if your child will be upset when you leave after the walk, 1:30ish, it may not be the thing for you to do!
Curriculum Night is also Thursday. We try not to have any grade presentations overlap so Kindergarten teachers (all 5 together with ECEs) will present 5:30 - 6:00 pm in the gym, stage side. After that we will open the class so you may pop in and chat with Ms. Paldon and I as well as each other and your Grade Parents. It isn't a child friendly evening as they will be unable to play and will need to sit quietly in the gym during the presentation so babysitting is advisable. There are NO handouts as we are a paperless school and ALL curriculum information is available on the TDSB website or government of Ontario education site.
Here is what the week looks like:
Monday - LIB/IT Day 5 AM
Tuesday -
Wednesday - Music AM, Fire Drill #2
Thursday - Terry Fox Walk 12:45, Curriculum Night 5:30
Friday - Sharing Assembly 9:00, Lockdown practise, Pizza Lunch, LIB/IT Day 4 PM
Have a great one!
