Welcome to our class blog for Ms. I.'s JK/SK class 2017-2018!
Returning to us, new to Kindergarten or new to LKS we are excited to have you be part of our class family and both Ms. Paldon, our class ECE, and myself look forward to seeing you at your Open House time on Tuesday! A reminder that SK students and families come for 10-11 am and JK students and families come for 1-2 pm. Our first full day of school is Wednesday, September 6.
You will want to check the blog each week - I post on Sundays usually - and include a recap of the present week as well as a day by day schedule for the upcoming week along with hints, tips or information to help you know what's going on!
To introduce myself, my name is Frances Iafrate and I have been a teacher for a very long time! I have a four year ECE degree as my under grad and have taught blind and visually impaired preschoolers at the HIgh Park School, run a daycare centre for the YMCA and have now been a TDSB teacher for the last 27 years teaching grades from JK to 5. Boy does time fly! In my spare time...we have 5 "adultish" children (from 23-28) four of whom live with us and keep us busy with all of their comings and goings and endeavours...add in a couple of dogs who like to hike and play frisbee and you can see that weekends easily disappear into the general hubbub of life and a LOT of grocery store trips!!
A Kindergarten is always a busy place, ours will be no different. We have 32 students on our class list to start, as do each of the other kindie classes! We do some things the same in all four classes and we do other things differently depending on each class' make up, interests and teacher preferences. We will have some awesome parent helpers called "Grade Parents" who act as my assistants in getting information out to you and making sure you know what is going on in the class that needs your attention or at LKS that affects you. They will be collecting information from you in the first week to establish an email list for relaying items to you. Any class volunteering opportunities etc will all be relayed once we get this class email list generated. For those of you wishing to volunteer please be aware the TDSB requires a Police Check for adults present in the school, you can see Mrs. Stefanowic in the office to pick up paperwork for Police Checks - and be advised they do expire also and there is a renewal process.
A few tips to get you started...
- have a backpack big enough for lunch bag, shoes, water bottle, library book and extra clothes but NO wheely bags please
- have your child's NAME on everything!
- smile, give your hugs and be ready to say goodbye at the line up OUTSIDE the class on Wednesday so this becomes your regular procedure
Cheers everyone,
Enjoy your last few days and see you on Tuesday sometime!
