Thank you as always to our valued volunteers! If you think you would like to help out next year in the role of a grade parent - presently held by Catherine and Tara - you might want to talk to them in the next few weeks to see what is involved. Both of our fantastic grade parents will be leaving us as their children graduate on to grade one and we will be looking for two parents to step up - something to think about! There are as many or as few opportunities as you would like to take to volunteer around the school, we appreciate any positive involvement you can share!
Thanks to those of you able to come to the Sharing Assembly on Friday, it is always nice to see so many people support and celebrate the kids and their efforts. The last assembly of the year will be on Friday, June 23.
The next month will be very busy around the school and class as everyone readies for the summer break and transitions to new grades, new expectations! Here are a few events to note...
Springfest - Sat. June 3 - rain or shine
Please send your donation for our auction basket "Legomania" by Friday, thanks to those who already have!
Thurs. June 8 - Whole school Volunteer appreciation, coffee and muffin available before school for everyone who has volunteered over the year. Many thanks!
Fri. June 23 - Sharing Assembly 9:00, character trait of perseverance
Mon. June 26 - Reports come home with ALL students, SK's will find their new room and teacher noted, JK's will remain in our room with me for their SK year unless moving from LKS.
Weds. June 28 - 1:45 PM to 3:05 - SK graduation
All the kids will be in class as it is a regular school day, JK's will watch the ceremonies, but JK parents need not attend - only SK students will receive certificates. All SK parents are invited to attend, let me know if you would like to bring other family members as I will move furniture and set chairs out to accommodate as best as I can!
Thurs. June 29 - Pizza Lunch is "on the lawn" in the park - EVERY child needs an adult with them so if you are unable to come have lunch with your child please let a friend know who could take them
(buddy up!) or let me know so that I can be sure Ms. Joy will know who she is responsible for on her lunch attendance.
If you have questions about any of this feel free to ask for clarification.
Thursday we received 6 Painted Lady butterfly caterpillars to care for and watch as they go through their amazing metamorphasis. How lucky are we! The kids are fascinated with our insect inquiry and finding out how important even the smallest creature is to the health of our Earth. As Hunter so
wisely said, "I think mostly every creature helps the Earth some way." How very true. Kids often like
the feeling of power over insects as they are smaller and usually more helpless than the kids, controllable, capturable...but we strive to understand and instill the value of everyone and everything no matter how small. This is something you can encourage as your child explores their own backyard and the creatures in it. Don't forget to ask your child what's going on with the cateroillars each day!
As we celebrate more birthdays than usual this last month - to recognize the summer birthday kids - a reminder that if you are sending treats to share they should be nut free. We usually eat them at the lunch table so even though we have no nut allergies in our class, the other classes may.
This week looks like:
Monday - Day 5 LIB/IT AM
Tuesday - Music AM
Wednesday - Mystery Reader AM
Thursday - Day 3 LIB/IT PM
Friday - Reading Buddies AM, Mystery Reader PM
Have a great week!
