Week of May 22 - 26 Happy Long Weekend!

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers!  We had a great morning with Scientist Zillah on Friday, many thanks to our super volunteers Jansel, Jeremy, Julianne and Nicola for running activity stations - the kids were stuffed full of "bee knowledge" and had fun with all the activities.  The scientists travel around the city and service several school districts, meaning they see a lot of different kindergarten classes and I can proudly tell you Scientist Zillah was very impressed by the children's behaviour and manners as well as academic abilities! Well done everyone!

This week there will be volunteers in the library helping Ms. McGee run the book fair (the last for this school year!) and next week the LKS tradition of Springfest will take place with hoards of volunteers on the scene and behind the scenes...volunteering keeps your child's school running! Thank you!

For all of those who sent in books, thank you - the announcements told us that over 3000 have been collected and counted and that Monday will be the last day!  The stuffy boxes in the front hall are filling up also, gently used stuffies are welcome to keep coming in!  As per Tara's email - you can send in your Lego items/$ marked "Springfest basket" all this week.  If you are unfamiliar with our Springfest (most schools do some kind of spring or fall "fair" idea to raise funds for school programs and purchases) it is a day - June 3, Rain or Shine - of activities/games/food AT LKS, aimed at fun for the kids and family, where you purchase tickets as admission for activities and the monies raised goes back into the LKS pot.  It is always a fun day, the kids love seeing each other there and the class baskets (each class puts together a themed basket) are on display for bidding.  Anyone can bid on anything and of course the better the baskets look, the more interest they generate...and the higher the bids go! I'll be keeping my eyes open for cool/nonsexed Lego things as I zip around this weekend getting my chores done.

This week we have several events on!
We will  visit the bookfair TUESDAY morning as per the note in your child's mailbag.  If you wish them to purchase, please send their money in a ziploc with their NAME on it, thank you!

We will have our culminating assembly for all of the Terry Fox work LKS did back in the fall.  We are proudly always one of the top ten schools in Ontario for fundraising and will be honoured on Thursday with a visit by Fred Fox, Terry's brother!  Also that day, the classes have been divided into teams to cheer on our staff/student tricycle riders in the bike race.  Our class should wear WHITE on Thursday and cheer hard for team White! Go team!

On Friday we have our May Sharing Assembly, celebrating the character trait of integrity.  I explain integrity to the kids as "doing the right thing...even when no one is looking..." That is VERY tricky for youngsters who typically assume if they don't get caught...they didn't do anything wrong...but also one of the pillars society is built on.  Good people do good things.  Even when no one is watching, rewarding them or telling them to.  In the classroom, when my head is down reading and listening to the children and Ms. Mosun is on watch there are always a few who take advantage of the situation and those who rise to the situation and continue to use the same good standards of behaviour.  Integrity is also knowing and owning up to a mistake or error in judgement and not laying the blame
forward or deflecting.  These are important milestones as the children grow and need to be taught and relected upon for success in school, with peers and in life.  We celebrate our Hunter, Daly and Jameson for independently displaying integrity in the classroom or taking ownership when making mistakes along the learning path, well done guys!

Our week looks like this:
Monday - Victoria Day, No School
Tuesday - Book Fair AM, send $ in a ziploc with your child's NAME ON if purchasing please
