Welcome back and happy spring! Those of you who made it to a sunnier destination we hope you brought some of that sun back home with you! We have been charting the weather, testing out the old addage "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb" only to find that most of our March days have been lion (winter) days. Ick. No one is impressed. No one. The kids are even more done with the snowpants than Ms. Mosun and I! Spring is a great time to learn about the weather since it's so changeable. Next week we will make a cloud in a jar and make it rain in the class...fun stuff!
Action needed!
Mailbags were sent home on Friday with our weekly poem in your child's poetry book and a letter from the TDSB regarding a census coming in April. Parents from JK up will be invited to take part, read the letter and/ or visit www.tdsb.on.ca/census for more information. If you DO NOT wish to take part PLEASE RETURN THE BOTTOM of the form by FRIDAY. Thanks!
New book sets are organized and next week we begin mailbag readers in the Tuesday and Friday mailbags just as usual. A few people still owe a book from the old sets so please have a good look around and send those back in. The kids are making great progress and we need all the books to keep them practising.
Items needed!
We continue to explore shapes, 3dimensional solids now. The kids are learning proper names for the attributes - faces, edges and vertices or vertex, also point or apex such as on a cone. We hope to create a "Shape/Solid Museum" in the class by having everyone bring 1 (one) interesting thing from home in the shape of a solid ... look around the house, through the toy bins etc for objects in the shape of solids. An example - party hat is a cone, block is a cube (we don't want 27 of those so you might have to steer away from that bin!) a cup is a cylinder, candle is a cylinder, lip balm can be a sphere...be as creative as you can, label your object with your child's name and we will return it to
you. If all objects could be in by Friday, March 31, we can open the museum the following week (April 3-7) and return your objects Friday, April 7. Thank you!
Next year...
Registration for the NEW JK's coming in September is complete and now we ask you to let us know if your child will NOT be returning to LKS in the fall for any reason. If you are moving, going to an alternative/private school please let us know so that classes for next year can be as balanced as possible. Everyone gets placed on a class list unless you let us know, so in September some classes are depleted (3 no shows can make a group girl heavy, boy heavy, JK heavy, etc) and had we known the kids could have been distributed differently. Thanks for the heads up!
Certificates...
