Week of October 3 - 7 Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you to our valued volunteers!
Many thanks if you helped out this week at the Terry Fox walk event or for Pizza Lunch.  The children enjoyed both immensely!  It was great to see so many of you at our first Sharing Assembly also.  This month we celebrated Liana, Veronica and Gray for their demonstration of respect towards themselves, others, their belongings, our class, and school.  Our next Sharing Assembly will be on Friday, October 28 to celebrate the character trait of responsibility.

This coming week we begin several new aspects of our class that will enhance your child's learning by participating.  Mailbag reader books will begin circulation on Tuesday.  Mailbag readers are meant for reading practise.  They are sets of books that are levelled for the K- 1 child.  Each child is at their own personal level of reading, my books are shared among all of the Kindergarten classes and while we try to get your child at their level you may find some easier and some harder.  These provide learning opportunities too! Your child will bring their first book and a sheet of suggestions in their mailbag on Tuesday.  Books are to be returned on Fridays - or Thursdays on a short week - IN the mailbag.  A new book CANNOT be sent until the old one is returned AND must have a MAILBAG to be carried in.  Have fun with this, it is our form of homework!

Mystery Readers begin this week also and the children are really excited about it!  A Mystery Reader is a complete SURPRISE!  We get a call from Mrs. Shakespeare in the office that "someone" is there as mystery reader and the leader brings the reader to our class where their identity is then revealed.  Please DO NOT tell your child if you are the Mystery Reader!  If you are the Mystery Reader, please bring your own books with you and be on time as we will be sitting ready.  If you missed the sign up for this, contact Tara or Catherine - your grade parents - to see if there are available spots.  Let's have fun with this, it is one of the kids' favourite activities!

This week we will be using our GLASS jars for a Thanksgiving craft your child will bring home to you on Thursday.  Thank you to those who have already sent in a jar, if you have not please do so on Monday.

Your child brought home an October Scholastic order form on Friday.  Please send order forms back to school on Monday if you wish to buy something.  Scholastic has tightened their shipping policies and I have to pay shipping for each separate order less than $30.  Let's try to avoid this as it just inflates the price of what you are ordering and eats up the bonus points we are trying to earn to buy materials for the room - like the rocket ship that we got last year!  There will be an order form each month and you do not need to purchase books if you do not wish to.

This week looks like:
Monday - LIB/IT AM, Scholastic Orders Due
Tuesday - Music AM, Mailbag Reader Home
Wednesday - Mystery Reader AM
Thursday - LIB/IT PM, Mailbag Reader Home
Friday - PA Day - No School for students

Have a great week!
Enjoy your Thanksgiving time with friends and family!  At my house we host Thanksgiving dinner, 5 adult children from 22 - 27 plus significant others can certainly eat ALOT of turkey and pie!  It is chaotic and noisy but fun and full of love just as it should be.  Best wishes to you for a great weekend!
