Thank you as always to our valued volunteers.
Short weeks are always busy weeks in the class and this one was no exception. We continued learning about and practising our measuring skills using standard and non-standard units. Next week we will be measuring ourselves and making a life-size drawing with our Reading Buddies using centimeters.
We finished off the week on day 86 of our count towards the 100th day of school. We practise counting by 10's on a daily basis and look at the 100 chart for patterns and relationships among the numbers every day also. Your child brought home their plastic baggie and 100 day project outline on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing the projects and hearing the kids speak about them.
On Wednesday we learned about school bus safety and had a chance to jump out the emergency exit of a real bus! The kids were very receptive to the drivers who came to teach us and the opportunity to learn about buses. This coming week, a firefighter will be visiting with us and giving us a fire safety presentation. Please continue the talk at home, use the Toronto Fire Department site, and be fire safe wherever you go!
The sight words we focus on will be -have, then, his and her for the next several weeks until everyone has had a chance to work with them. All of our seniors and some of our juniors can read the majority of words we have to this point...and more! We read the days, months, our names, colours and theme words from our areas of inquiry such as bears, snow, measurement, cm, etc etc as well as the focus group of high frequency words. You can print off high frequency words from many different free sights to play games with and with the kids practising their reading at home as well you are building very strong readers!
The January Sharing Assembly is this Friday to celebrate the character trait of teamwork. We will
award certificates to Reese, Adam and Henry for being good role models in the classroom and helping out wherever needed without being asked. Well done kids!
