Week of November 9 - 13

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers!
This past week we participated in a presentation called "Learn to Grow" which hilited for the kids participation, having fun, risk taking, being inclusive, respectful and responsible in a series of fun activities.  Everyone did a great job and enjoyed themselves.  Well done!

Thank you to those who ordered Scholastic books this month, the order was placed and hopefully will be here in a few days.  We earn dividends (a percentage of each order placed) which I can use to purchase further items for our class.  This month I ordered $200 of materials for math, character education and imaginative play which were fully paid for by dividends, woohoo!  The next order catalogue will be sent the first week of December.

We enjoyed a great fall walk around the block with our Reading Buddies this past week.  The children were using all their senses to spot signs of fall and used the experience to write about once we were back in class.  Walking with our Buddies gives us a fun and practical way to look around the neighborhood making great scientific observations.  How lucky we are, the grade sixes have really taken to our wonderful kindies and look forward to spending time with us. It's awesome!

Photo orders are to be done by November 9 and the proofs will be sent home as soon as we get them.

Wednesday is November 11, Remembrance Day.  We will participate in a whole school assembly very different in tone from any other.  The classes are asked to be subdued and respectful.  No applause is necessary and we stand for a moment of silence.  The children will each be given a poppy to wear by the Royal Canadian Legion and they appreciate any donations we collect and forward to them.  The Kindergartens are talking about peace as the focus and learning a lovely song about peace in music class which they will be performing at the November Sharing Assembly, Friday, November 27.  If your child wishes, he or she may wear their Sparks or Beavers uniform to school on Remembrance Day.  (Older siblings may wish to wear their Guides or Cubs uniforms.)

This week:
Monday - PM Mystery Reader
Tuesday - Mailbags, Day 5 LIB/IT
Wednesday - Remembrance Day Assembly AM
Thursday - Reading Buddies, AM Mystery Reader, Day 2 LIB/IT
Friday - PA Day
Have a great week!
