Thank you to our wonderful Grade Parents for a good meeting and getting us up and running for a good year! Mary (Josie's mom), Patricia (Adam's mom) and Tara (Paige's mom) will be our Grade Parents for this year. They have graciously volunteered their time to build our monthly calendars, volunteer sign ups and schedules which keep us all informed and on track, thank you ladies!
Our first full week was a busy one! The fire drill was postponed but our lockdown practise (Let's play the quiet game, everybody shhhhhhhhhhh!) went really well. Safety is always our priority and in the event there is ever a need to know what to do in these intense situations, we will be great. Treating these practise incidences as a calm "must", reassuring everyone that we are safe and will continue to be because we practiced and know what to do helps ease any fears. Another fire drill is planned for this week.
The Library is up and running for circulation. Our class is divided in half so that half the children exchange books and half use the computer lab on Library days, then switch on the next library day. This keeps the groups smaller and more manageable, lets everyone have their own computer, as well as allows Ms. McGee to do more in the physical space of the library. Your child's Library exchange day will stay the same ALL year. Books are always due back on their next exchange day.
Day 2 will be Library for -
Yann, Jordyn, Lexi, Reese, Amelia, Kayln, Adam, Eros, Justine, Veronica, Everett, Tabitha, Alexandra, Anirudh. Day 5 will be their computer lab day.
Day 5 will be Library for -
Bridget, Marissa, Ethan, Malena, Santino, Zachary, Julian, Daly, Hunter, Paige, Henry, Rumaisa, Josie. Day 2 will be their computer lab day.
This week we begin Reading/Learning Buddies. Our Buddies are Mr. Littlejohn and his grade 6 class - several of whom have already come to me to say they are so happy to be with us! We read, play and work with our Buddies each Day 2 for a period first thing in the morning. With our class being slightly smaller this year, each kindie will have their own buddy! Yeah! Buddies stay paired up over the year to have the opportunity to really get to know and be comfortable together. We are higher in girls than they are so some of our girls will have a "big brother" buddy. We start Wednesday!
We celebrate our first class birthdays this week. If you wish to share a treat for your child's birthday please remember we are a NUT free school. Treats can be as simple as a cookie each, granola bar, rice krispie square etc. they don't have to be cupcakes! Please be sure there are 27 so everyone can have one if you are sending something. Thanks!
Last week your child brought home a September calendar. We use a calendar everyday in class to know what's going on, learn our days, numbers, months, etc. Your child can cross off the days, count days they are waiting for and so many other things if you can help them "hang" it somewhere accessible. We will make one each month for bringing home.
This week:
Monday - Lib/IT
Tuesday - Fire Drill PM
Wednesday - Reading Buddies, Lib/IT
Thursday - Music

Have a great week!
Ms. I.
