Week of January 12 - 16

What a cooooooooooold way to start of the year! Brrrrrr Thank you for making sure your children are warm and comfortable both inside and out!  We follow the TDSB severe weather guidelines as do all other TDSB schools.  With a temperature/wind chill of -20 to -28 recess can be 10 minutes and lunch 20 minutes outside.  With a temperature below -28 the children remain inside. Our office administrators keep a constant eye on the temperature reading from Environment Canada's website and the decision to remain in or out is made and can be remade over the course of the day if temperatures change.

The Borrow A Book program begins again on Tuesday with a new set of books.  Many thanks to those who have found and returned books from the last set.  There are still 5 out there somewhere that can be returned at any time!  Remember, the children will bring books in their mailbags Tuesdays and Thursdays, mailbags do not need to be sent any other days.  If your child doesn't return the old reader a new one cannot be sent but also this reduces the number of books available in circulation for everyone so please try to have readers bag in the mailbags and at school each Tuesday and Thursday.

The January Scholastic order forms will be sent this Tuesday in the mailbags, order forms and cheques are due Friday.  There are some cute Valentine books for reasonable prices in case you're looking ahead!

Also looking ahead...reports for JK's and 100's day are coming quickly!

The Junior Kindergartens get a report on February 9.  Seniors DO NOT get a report this term.  Online interview booking will be open from January 29 to February 5, however; this term interview spots are primarily for students considered "at risk" going forward or those who have shown significant gains
or drop offs over the last term.  IF YOUR CHILD FALLS INTO THIS CATEGORY YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED.  This is the same procedure across grades K to 8.

We celebrate 100's day in Kindergarten and grade one at LKS.  Your child will be asked to bring a collection of 100...something...to share/show the class.  This year the 100th day of school falls on Friday, February 6.  With 31 students we will NOT be able to look at all the collections on the same day so I will be breaking the class into groups - more on that as we get closer!  Collections need to be small and manageable enough for your child to handle and explain to the class.  They need to be bagged/contained/secured somehow as to remain visible but safe from loss or destruction!  Some examples are...
100 cheerios, candies, beads, lego pieces, small toys, pictures, words, popsicle sticks, coins, candles,
Marshmallows, stickers etc etc

The idea is it is something YOUR child is interested in and put together.  Collections can go in clear baggies that zip with the name on, clear tupperware, jars, glued to bristol board etc etc but so that your child is able to display what they have and how they grouped or counted the items (1's, 2's, 5's, 10's, 20's, 25's, 50's - your choice but we practice and work mostly with grouping and counting by 1's and 10's in kindergarten)  Have fun with it!  I will post the due dates for groups the last week of January, please don't send collections in early as we have nowhere to store them safely!

This week...
Monday - LIB/IT
Tuesday - Reading Buddies (they had to cancel last week, the demands of grade 6! We look forward  to seeing them!)
Wednesday - Mystery Reader PM
Thursday - Music, LIB/IT
Friday - Mystery Reader AM
Have a great week!
Ms. I.
