Week of March 5 - 9

Thank you as always to our valued volunteers.  Next week we will be collecting the mailbag readers on Tuesday but not sending out new ones.  Please be on the lookout for a reminder notice if you have an outstanding book as I would like to change the sets after the break.  Our "homework" in kindergarten is reading and reading practice. The more exposure kids have, the more confident they feel in their ability, the better their attitude to reading in general, the more likely they are to enjoy reading and feel successful in reading tasks. We know that developing a "sight word" vocabulary is dependent on exposure - the more kids see words, the more likely they are to commit them to memory...particularly when they cannot be sounded out.  This is what we work on in our morning message and writing tasks on a daily basis.  We use phonics as a strategy to sound out words we do not recognize, not all words we read, so by practicing and seeing words over and over we  work on visual memory and improve reading skills.  Read on everyone!

Next week looks like this:
Monday-Reading Buddies AM
Tuesday-Day 4 yellow LIB/IT, Gym PM
Wednesday-Day 5 orange LIB/IT AM, Mystery Reader PM
Thursday-
Friday-Music, Mystery Reader AM, Gym PM

Please note that while I always put our gym periods on the schedule we do find it used for alternate purposes some days and just go outside for our gross motor exercise!  Sometimes the kids notice the change and sometimes they don't, we don't dwell on it as it's just part of sharing the gym space with the whole school.

We will not be sending poetry books home this week, one less thing to find after the break when we are all heading back to school!  Have a great week!
