Week of November 5 - 9

Thanks for another great week in kindergarten.  Our Halloween adventures were a lot of fun, from the costumes and parade to the crafts and treats.  Thanks to everyone who helped out.

Our Snuggle Up books continue to be changed Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  We're on the second set of books already but a few from the first set are still out there...send them in as soon as possible please.

November calendars came home in mailbags on Friday.  The children worked hard on these so please help by finding a suitable place to hang it for them to refer to as we count on the days of November.  It's always great to add family/friend birthdays or special days as well so that the children can have some understanding of how close/far away these days are.  Keep practicing those numbers to build skill and confidence!  As far as writing stories, we use our "sounds" to make the words to tell a story first and then as sight words develop from our reading and reading and reading! of books we begin to use more standardized spelling.  The students are doing a great job - give LOTS of praise for inventive spelling as it shows great confidence and a beginning understanding of how words are created.

Coats are coming along wonderfully!  Children have a natural desire for growing independence and want to begin caring for their needs.  Showing them how to do simple, daily tasks like dressing is a great confidence builder and very satisfying for them.  We have only a few who require daily help dressing and they're working hard to learn how to get those little fingers in the right places.  It's great incentive when all of your friends are busy doing their own coats!  Please check that as you buy new coats or hand down winter coats; your child knows how the closures work and that the zippers are in good repair and do in fact work easily enough for your child to do.  Broken zippers can often be replaced at the dry cleaners for a few dollars per inch, sometimes still far less than the cost of the coat.  Adding a key ring loop to the zipper pull is helpful for giving your child a better grasp as they pull.  Girls with longer length coats sometimes need extra time to practice the zipper as reaching it becomes the issue! All in all, a great beginning - congratulations!

Interviews can be scheduled as of Monday, November 5, online - follow the instructions from Ms. Caddel's blog or your grade parent newsletter.  The site will close Friday, November 9.  Senior Kindergartens will bring home a progress report November 12.

Class and individual photos arrived Friday afternoon.  The children will bring them home Monday.  Those who ordered individual photos will receive a class picture IN their package  Those who did not order pictures WILL still receive a complimentary class photo.  Retake pictures are not yet available.
